My Inheritance

June and Jiggs' Wedding
April 1, 1946

Aunt Marie just told me about the diamond clip.
How did I miss out on that???

Sixty-three years ago my parents got married.
At the wedding breakfast my grampa gave a tribute to his new daughter-in-law.
He said he had a special wedding present for her,
something that had been in the family for years:
a diamond clip.

Thrilled, she opened the little box and found . . .

a dime and clip.

(It was April Fool's Day!)

They lived happily ever after anyway.

Terrific. What a clever guy - a joke and a story to hand down.

Love the picture! Hilarity is genetic.

Your mother must have had a great sense of humor to be able to smile after a trick like that at her wedding.

My husband told me that he almost got me a 5 carat diamond. He said he tried and tried but, unfortunately, at the very last minute, the claw dropped the ring.

That's a great story. I agree with The Grandmother that "it would require a great sense of humor to smile after a trick like that" but, then again, great senses of humor also have a lot to do with the "living happily ever after" part in all of our lives don't they. Thanks for the post, I enjoyed it.

You sound you inherited your sense of humor from both of them. That is why I came to your blog--I read your comment on Diane's littlebitsofnothing "Edit" post
