Hotel des Invalides, Paris, 2008Napoleon has a
complex. His remains are protected by a whole compound of buildings called
Les Invalides. When I looked closer I saw his body guards.

Not only do they shield the windows,

And defend the windows,

They
are the windows!

The dome over Napoleon's tomb is gilded with more than half a million gold leaves,
or more than 20 pounds of gold!

His body is inside 6 different coffins (sort of like Russian nesting dolls)
and finally it was set inside this mahogany tomb.

Who doesn't need a nice place to rest after taking over the world?
(You can understand why he was probably poisoned in the end.)

Me thinks he overcompensated a little too much for something. Not sure what, but something.
Paranoia. Such an entertaining thing for the ones looking in.
I wish that we had seen that when we were there! The dome looks gorgeous.
Ok, my comment above could have been titled "The comment to nowhere". I actually had a pretty great thought inside my head, it just bonked on the presentation.
I meant to explain that it's fascinating to witness the great lengths that people who have a distorted grandiosity about themselves will go to to ensure their own protection and safety.
