Ghost of Christmas Present

I'm the ghost of Kirby Puckernut. He's a real guy—a real elf, I should say—and Santa Claus put him in charge of a blog this year. (They're trying to put the North Pole on the map, I guess.) Anyway, Kirby got hold of me and in a very high-pitched squeak asked if I was really a ghostwriter. I assured him I was, and he squeaked, "Will you be mine?" How could I resist?

It turns out Kirby is the star of a darling new Christmas book about Christmas magic, and Santa has received zillions of letters from folks asking for tips. With the Christmas rush and all, there just wasn't time for Kirby to learn the intricacies of blogging, so I've been entrusted with Santa's secrets. I'll be posting them on Kirby's blog every Thursday from now 'til Christmas.

But I'll let you in on a secret—I need your secrets. Do you have unique ways of creating Christmas magic? Here are some questions for you to mull over with your cider:
  1. What is Christmas magic?
  2. What unique Christmas traditions bring magic into your home?
  3. What do you say to "Is Santa Claus real?"
  4. What about the Christmas when everything went wrong?
  5. What's the most stressful thing about Christmas?
I'd love to hear your secrets! Since I'm just Kirby's ghost, I can't give you credit for your ideas on his blog ("The secret of creativity is knowing how to hide your sources."—Albert Einstein) but you'll get full credit here on mine!

Of course Santa Claus is real. I know because I'm married to him. But like "The Dread Pirate Roberts" the title gets passed on.

Oh my, Oma! I struggle with the Santa bit every year. So far, I've skirted the question by reciting the story of Saint Nick and the man with three daughters, bags of gold tossed through the window, etc. It also emphasizes the importance of almsgiving.
My son is now tipping over the 7 years and becoming more inquisitive. I'd be very interested in hearing how other people (yourself included) answer the questions you've asked here.

Your questions evolved into a post on my blog, so come on over.

Seems as though I don't know how to link properly, so you'll have to cut and paste to get to my blog.

I always told my kids "as long as you believe there is a Santa there is - he's the spirit of Christmas and I believe." My children are 20-38 and to this day that is the answer I will give them.

In my family the Santa Claus question was a point of contention between my parents they settled it with this description: "Santa Claus is someone who loves you, but you know don't know who." It doesn't get more real or honest than that--at least for us because we had lots of benefactors at Christmas time.

I believe in Santa but he's forgotten me! Sigh!

I posted the recipe for Eggless over on my blog, "Motorcycle Grandma". Someone, anonymously, requested it.
