Czech Her Out

Toy Store Window in Cesky Krumlov

This witch is sitting in a Czech toy store window.
Does she seem like the right person to welcome little kids?

  1. No, she doesn't seem to be the right image for a children's toy shop, but maybe she is a kindly, benevolent old witch, who hold a special place in Czech children's hearts? LOL

  2. This reminds of the Finnish tradition of the Christmas Goat. To each his own I guess.

  3. Well, some of the biggest selling books for kids in the world are all about Harry Potter. I haven't read them but I believe they're all about magic and warlocks and things of that nature. What's a witch in comparison? I do remember when I saw "Sleeping Beauty" as a little girl I got a puzzle showing her pricking her finger on the spindle with the Wicked Witch peering from the background. The first day I had it, I stuck it under my bed. I had a nightmare that nite about the witch coming up from under the bed to get me! I have NEVER forgotten it, ha!

  4. to me she looks more like the traditional Peddler Dolls -- also, the Italians have a La Befana figure that is a traditional bringer of Christmas gifts that also might be described as a "witch" -- so yes, she looks like a toy store to me!

  5. Yikes! My kids would run screaming. I could NEVER get Hannah in a store with something like that. She's terrified at Halloween time of ANYTHING midly scary.

  6. My kids would have thought her wonderful!!! Then again -- they're my kids and as weird as I am!!! LOL

Kate especially loved witches -- when she was three she insisted that I make her a witch costume for Halloween -- which might explain her devotion to the Harry Potter books. I love them. too!
